It’s finally Spring and change is in the air! Some of us love the feeling we get from doing new things and changing up our routines now that the cold weather (and for some, the snow) has gone and bright sunny days and warm winds are a lot easier to find and enjoy. Others, however, hate change, or maybe just dislike that feeling of doing something new and feeling like we’re a beginner or don’t know what we’re doing when we try new things. Either way, there is POWER in change!
Change, by its very nature, contains the power to shake things up, the power to discover something you enjoy, to learn about something new and discover a new talent, to cross something off your personal “bucket” list, or just to decide what isn’t for you!
Do you Need Some Change in Your Life?
Most of us instinctually know when we need to introduce change in our lives. This usually shows up as feeling dissatisfied, feeling unfulfilled or maybe just feeling bored and like our life isn’t exciting and has gotten a little lackluster or too filled with routine with no room for spontaneity or fun! But, when looking at actually making changes or trying something completely new to us – really stepping out of our personal comfort zone – that’s a lot harder! That’s scary! Nobody wants to look like a fool!
Getting Over FEAR
How do we get over the paralyzing FEAR that stops us from doing new things? First, recognize consciously that FEAR is just us trying to protect ourselves. We’ve stayed alive this long, so the body, the spirit and the mind all figure what we’ve been doing has worked so far, why change things up? That feels risky to us. In real life, most of the “doing things new” and making changes we contemplate in our lives would actually be good for us, getting us more of what we want and have been missing in life—if only we could just do it and get over the FEAR and take action!
FEAR – False. Evidence. Appearing. Real.
Most people have heard the saying, “FEAR stands for False. Evidence. Appearing. Real” – that’s a great acronym to remind yourself of when you know you want to try new things, but all that is really stopping you from taking action is feeling afraid of doing something new.
Something else you can do to help yourself get over fear and on to “taking action” and making changes in your life is to find a friend! It is so much easier to take a class, or try something new when you find someone else to do it with you! That way, even if you hate it, at least you got to spend time with and make a memory with someone else!

What happens when you do add new things in your life? You try something new. Take a new class. Drive a new way to work. Head out to a new park. These new experiences feed our spirit. They get us out of routine and break down the mental ruts we may have found ourselves in.
